Academic Workshops

Computational Skills: Want to dive into a new skill or refine an existing one? We put on a series of workshops throughout the academic year. Past topics have included MATLAB, Labview, Linux, C, C++, source/version control, and more.
Orientation Week: Need a math refresher before taking some math-heavy classes? We offer reviews in subjects such as Calculus, ODEs, and Linear Algebra during orientation to remind you of these subjects. See our Math Refresher page for review material for these subjects.

For more information on workshops past and future, see our Academic Workshops page.

Take a Professor to Lunch

Take a Professor to Lunch is an ongoing program of the GSC. Our mission is to provide graduate students with an opportunity to meet and socialize with faculty outside of their departments, and to learn from the professors’ experiences. For each lunch, ~8 students are selected in a lottery form those who have expressed interest. Monthly lunches take place at the Athenaeum, and lunch is included for all who participate.

If you have a professor in mind that you think would be a good candidate for this program, please fill out the Nomination Form.

Take an Alum to Lunch

Similar to Take a Professor to Lunch, Take an Alum to Lunch seeks to bring together students and a Caltech Alumni so that students may learn from a professional in industry. This program complements the more academia-focused Take a Professor to Lunch series.

If you would like to see an alumni from a certain field of industry or who graduated from a certain department, or if you have a particular alumni in mind, please fill out the Nomination Form.

Field Trips

If you would like to see a field trip to a particular company or lab, please fill out theĀ Field Trip Suggestion Form.
